Area: convert both dimensions
A square unit has two dimensions, so the conversion factor appears twice.
| Dimension | In metres | In centimetres |
|---|---|---|
| a | 1 m | 100 cm |
| b | 1 m | 100 cm |
| a × b | 1 m² | 10 000 cm² |
One worked example
- 1 m² = 1 m × 1 mArea is the product of two lengths.
- 100 cm × 100 cm = 10 000 cm²Convert each length, then multiply.
