A smaller unit means more pieces
Converting does not change the length. It changes the measuring piece: you need more shorter pieces to cover the same distance.
| Larger unit | Same length in smaller units |
|---|---|
| 1 cm | 10 mm |
| 1 m | 100 cm |
| 1 km | 1 000 m |
One worked example

- 2.5 m = 2.5 × 100 cmReplace each metre with a hundred centimetre pieces.
